Born from a musical family, Edgar Cortazar has been influenced by art from generations behind. His grandfather, Ernesto Cortazar, composed most of Mexico's popular music hits in the 40's and 50's which were recorded by the voice of Jorge Negrete and Pedro Infante among many others. Songs like "No Volveré", "Ay Jalisco No Te Rajes", "Cocula", "Yo Soy Mexicano", "La Chancla", "El Apagón", "Serenata Tapatía", “Esos Altos De Jalisco” , “Amor Con Amor Se Paga”, “Prisionero Del Mar”, “Tequila Con Limón”, “Ansiedad”, “Fiesta Mexicana”, “Soy Puro Mexicano” and many, many others are part of the Cortazar family music catalog.

Edgar Cortazar's father, Ernesto Cortazar Ducker, also kept the family tradition and legacy creating the background music for more than 600 movies in Mexico and his composing skills also gave numerous artists great hit songs in the 70's, 80's, 90's and today. Latin pop singer Ricky Martin was honored Nov. 1 as the Latin Recording Academy's Person of the Year during a special star-studded tribute dinner and concert at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers. A portion of the evening's proceeds went to Martin's charitable efforts.

Also in the spotlight were Cesar Camargo Mariano and Richie Ray & Bobbie Cruz, who each received the 2006 Latin Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award at a special ceremony held at New York's historical Rainbow Room also on Nov. 1.

The 7th Annual Latin Grammy Awards were broadcast live from Madison Square Garden on the Spanish-language Univision Network.

The demo panel discussion and contest were part of a series of events held this spring during Grammy in the Streets, an outreach program for those currently in the music industry or seeking to enter the industry. This year's event consisted of mentoring sessions, a panel on distribution, and the 2003 Baltimore Grammy Demo Panel Discussion and Contest.

Anderson's winning song, "Their Leader" is from her Christian pop/rock release WAIT - it's a musical!, a biblical musical based on the key figures in Luke and Matthew's birth narratives. It features a variety of musical styles, from Latin to blues to pop and was written specifically for performance by bands and singers.

Panelists for the demo discussion spoke about what should be included in a good demo and served as judges for the critique contest. Anderson's prize package included 10 hours of studio time at co-sponsor Omega Recording Studio, a gift certificate from Guitar Center, consulting time with an entertainment attorney and two artists managers, an on-air interview with Billy Zero on XM Radio's Unsigned Station (including airplay), and various Grammy merchandise.

Hailing from the Washington, DC metro area, Anderson started writing WAIT - it's a musical! while a student at Wesley Theological Seminary. A member of the Recording Academy and the Dramatists Guild of America, she has been playing electric guitar and harmonica in a church band for the past five years. She is a former worship leader, and has also been a player/singer in secular bands, including Metro West, Newtown Hope and Fable Fountain. The black-tie ceremony, hosted by BMI President/CEO Frances W. Preston and Assistant Vice President of Latin Music Diane Almodovar, honored top writers and publishers of the most performed Latin songs on American radio and television at a 300-person gala dinner at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles.
