The son of a well-known television personality — his mother is author and journalist Paty Chapoy — Dávila studied at Boston’s eminent Berklee College of Music before returning home to complete his composition studies in Mexico. After a short stint as a solo artist during which he recalls being paid for an early performance with an artichoke pizza in lieu of pesos, he formed Motel with vocalist and guitarist Billy Méndez. Over time, a shifting rhythm section was locked in when bassist Ruben Bridge and Pepe Damian, a drummer who had studied music in the U.S. at Arizona Western College, were enlisted as full time members.

More melodic than their stateside counterparts, Motel references such disparate influences as Jeff Buckley and Coldplay. With rock rhythms, pop melodies and evocative vocals balanced on an axis of both optimism and melancholy, the band clearly appeals to an emerging generation of young fans weaned on MTV — listeners on both sides of the border who are eager to check into this Motel.

Produced by Grammy winner Jack Douglas (John Lennon, The Who, Aerosmith) and mixed by fellow Grammy winner Michael H. Brauer (Coldplay, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan), Danielle Evin is a showcase for Danielle’s broad range of talents as a singer, guitarist and pianist. The disc also features the violin and vocal talents of acclaimed singer/songwriter Tracy Bonham.

Growing up in New York and Los Angeles, Danielle was surrounded by many of music’s greatest talents due to her parents’ careers in the arts. Her home was filled with art, music, theatre and film. Danielle fell in love with music as a child and has been following her passion ever since beginning with the piano at the age of 8, to violin in the school orchestra at 12, followed by learning guitar at age 14. The guitar was the inspiration for Danielle to begin writing and composing her own songs – an inspiration that has continued to this day: “Writing songs helps me articulate what’s going on inside my head,” says Danielle. “I communicate better in my songs than at a dinner party. It’s like having a sixth sense somehow.”

Danielle has performed at Farm Aid 2006 and has been touring the U.S. at select venues in support of her debut release. She has received local and national press exposure garnering many critical raves. In addition, she has been a top-seller in the highly competitive and influential New York metropolitan marketplace.

Danielle has appeared on the “CBS Early Show” as part of their weekly “Second Cup Café” live music series and was recently featured in the New York Daily News “Now” entertainment supplement.

She is currently recording her upcoming sophomore release with 39-time Grammy nominee and 13-time Grammy winning producer Phil Ramone.

The Film Music panel will feature BMI's Doreen Ringer Ross, Vice President of Film/TV Relations, as moderator, with panelists including composer David Mansfield (Stephanie Daley, Transamerica, Heaven's Gate), director Hilary Brougher (Stephanie Daley, The Sticky Fingers of Time), composer Anton Sanko (The Last Winter, Party Girl, Saving Face), director Larry Fessenden (The Last Winter), and music supervisor Tracy McKnight (The Last Winter, Fierce People, A Dirty Shame). Topics to be covered include score vs. source music, creating and licensing music for soundtracks, the director/composer relationship, the role of the music supervisor, and others geared to exposing the many roles within the world of film music.

BMI's "See It Hear First" showcase will feature the Rosewood Thieves, a New York City rock group whose EP, From The Decker House, was written in the small valley town of Deposit, N.Y. Their songs hark back to the classicality of acts such as the Band and Bob Dylan. The six picturesque songs on the EP are entwined with the stripped-down fundamentals of rock and roll and the sensuality of r&b. Country music's bleeding heart is the final straw that completes the Rosewood Thieves honest-to-goodness presentation. Signed to V2 Records, their music reflects the world around them.

Also performing is World of O.T.I.S., a band that's hard to describe. It's like trying to describe an emotion. It's happy, it's sad, it's carefree, it's raw. It's the whimsical nature of the Flaming Lips, mixed with the melancholy of Coldplay. They convey what they believe: Life isn't always easy, but don't take it too seriously. This past summer, the group played on the weekends in New York's Washington Square Park in Greenwhich Village where they would wheel out an acoustic 64-key piano and a small jazz drum kit. Over the course of three months, the duo sold almost 3000 CDs.

Oh No! Oh My!
Nashville-based trio Oh No! Oh My! weave crisp, electronic backbeats with folk-inspired guitar strums and harmonies to create an experimental electro-pop-folk hybrid. The sunny vocals often relay tongue-in-cheek stories and declarations, and members Greg Barkley, Daniel Hoxmeier and Joel Calvin have each mastered several instruments apiece, including banjos, drums, guitars and accordions. God or Julie
Manhattan's God or Julie embraces the blues both emotively and musically. Members Jon Paul, Adam and Aaron were sneaking into New York City blues clubs while still in high school and moved on to absorb bands like Stone Temple Pilots and Silverchair only after "trading licks and downing shots with blues players "four times our age." After adding Marc Slutsky on drums, the three friends became four, and the group's brand of emotionally charged rock struck a chord with listeners. O.T.I.S.
Pianist/vocalist Jesse Gage and drummer Craig Myer form the Brooklyn duo O.T.I.S. The charismatic pair cites the Flaming Lips and Coldplay as chief influences, and the result is a creative combination of the saucy and the melancholy, anchored by Gage's classically trained piano background. Kicking off the show was rock outfit Ivory. Take U2's guitar work, Coldplay's epic piano sound and Copeland's sing-a-longs, and you'll get the refreshing sound from this Wisconsin four-piece. Ivory has just signed with Ohio-based label, Carbon Copy Media, the label founded by Hawthorne Heights' JT Woodruff. Ivory's debut full-length CD is due out in early August.

Taking the stage next was Chicago-based Cameron McGill. His first album, Stories of the Knife and the Back (2004), describes a youth who leaves his mountain village to become a poet. In 2006 he took pop music to the dark libraries of your old house with Street Ballads & Murderesques. He will release two EPs in 2006, The Company of Great Thieves and Hold on Beauty.

Up next was Matt Hoffer, who left a successful and comfortable career in corporate America to follow his passion and songwriter muse to become what he describes as a "blue-collar" musician. In order to capture his vision, Matt spent three weeks in March 2005 going through preproduction and tracking the five-song Never Comfortable EP with up-and-coming producer Mike Shimshack in Brooklyn, N.Y. The resulting songs took pop to a new level and the end result is a very professional effort; an infectious alternative record without any over-the-top hooks and gimmicks.

Farewell is a six-piece band based out of Greensboro, N.C. During the past year, the band has recorded a six song EP, accumulated an active fan base, and rocked the eastern half of the U.S. like no other. They have shared the stage with such bands as Copeland, Glasseater, the Lawrence Arms, Limbeck, A Small Victory, Halifax, Madcap, Rocky Votolato, Tsunami Bomb and many others. The band just recently finished up their fall tour with Perfuma and is exploring options for the release of their newest album.

Exit the Ordinary punched in to make simple rock with a beautiful blend of bigness and intimacy. Hailing from Detroit, Exit the Ordinary is the invention of Tim West (lead vocals, guitars), Justin Niemi (bass, background vocals) and Luke Frenette (drums, background vocals). The independent release of the group's EP, The Place You Are (2005), served to strengthen their identity as a band with the pulse and driven rhythm of a prizefighter, but with the gentleness of a good physician.

The Bon Mots formed in Chicago in 2000 when Michigan natives Eric Chial and Mike Coy decided to combine musical efforts. In late 2001 and early 2002, the band recorded an album's worth of material and released Le Main Drag (Mellifluid Records). Reviews of Le Main Drag frequently reference Elvis Costello, and 60s and 80s British Mod influences such as the Kinks and the Jam. In addition to critics' praise, Le Main Drag was the eighth most added record on the CMJ Charts in August of 2004.

The band itself is made up of Jesse Gage (piano and vocals) and Craig Myer (drums).  Jesse was raised by a hippy mom in London and then Cape Cod, Massachusetts.  He began playing classical piano at age 7 and took lessons until age 14.  Craig, who was born and raised in New Jersey, comes from a long line of drummers.  His grandfather, father and older brother were all drummers.  The man was born with rhythm. 

Jesse hooked up with Craig about two and a half years ago in New York City.  When they met, Jesse was playing piano in the local clubs with an old record player as accompaniment.  The two added bass and a guitarist and spent about a year and a half playing as a four piece.  And then last summer, Craig and Jesse began playing on the weekends in Washington Square Park in Greenwhich Village.  They would wheel out an acoustic 64 key piano and a small jazz drum kit.  Over the course of 3 months, the duo sold thousands of cd’s while playing weekends in the park. 

Recently, the band began working with producer Tony Bruno and lawyer Nick Ferrara and became affiliated with BMI.  They reassembled the four piece set up, and are in the process of getting ready to cut a full length record.

Together the band has found their true voice, and the fans are listening.

The group’s lyrics and melodies are delivered through Tom’s soulful voice, which brings to life thoughts and emotions we’ve all had trouble expressing. “I write about everyday things, the good and the bad,” says Pritchard.

Led by this bold and honest song writing, the band has found a growing fan base that continues to demand more of the quartet’s creative works. With recent interest from major labels, Dynamite Walls is poised at the edge of stardom and eager to share their music with the world.

But wait a sec. There is, not surprisingly, a lot more to it than that.

Blunt’s family has a long military tradition, so they weren’t exactly at a loss when it came time to advise the nascent singer/songwriter on a paying profession. “Like any parents, mine wanted me to have a secure job with a regular wage and career prospects,” he explains. “And the one job my father knew of, that he’d had experience of himself, was the army, so he could help me in that direction.”

One of the results of his subsequent tour of duty in Kosovo was “No Bravery,” a rapier-edged report that ends debut album Back to Bedlam on a note far removed from the otherwise placid, dreamy set. “I guess it’s always nice to be able to capture your life’s experiences in a song and hold the emotion in that way,” he says.

Within a year of leaving the army, he was signed to Atlantic/Custard and recording Bedlam in Los Angeles.

A support slot on Elton John’s 2004 tour followed, and Bedlam, led by the enchanting single “You’re Beautiful,” started flying off the shelves, gaining reviews comparing him favorably to the likes of Coldplay and Elliott Smith. This year finds him relentlessly touring the U.S. and Europe as a headliner, with appearances at several high-profile festivals like Coachella also on the slate.

Lest one start throwing about the “overnight sensation” term, however, Blunt says, “Well, I’m 28 now and I’ve been planning this since I was 14 so it’s actually taken a really long time, but when it’s right things move fast.”

And how does his family view his career choice now?

“They’ve been really supportive. They’re my number one fans,” he laughs, “and in fact my mother’s my first stalker.”

Co-fronted by Australian brothers, Isaac and Thorry Koren, the sound of THE KIN blends the atmospheric musical wave of old school U2 and groove pop sensibilities of Duran Duran with the vocal soul of Jeff Buckley. The Kin juxtapose dark melodies with catchy hooks and solid musicianship, garnering comparisons to everything from the Cure to Coldplay.

The Kin are currently supporting RED, the introductory volume from the Red, Black & White (RBW) series of releases, the highly anticipated follow-ups to their debut album Tracing. A franchise of three bootleg demos, RBW captures the charismatic energy and soul of the band’s live performances.

Slowly becoming one of NYC’s hottest live acts, the Kin are creating a subterrestrial scene of their own through innovative grass-roots techniques. In addition to packing venues like Bowery Ballroom, the Knitting Factory and selling out the Mercury Lounge and Pianos, the band also performs secret late-night shows in plush hot-spots, share a Tower Records listening station with major labels (the only unsigned artist to do so), are continually involved with philanthropic endeavors, and even rock out with the legendary Comets at the Gibson Sound Stage.
