Hailing from the same suburban Los Angeles enclave that birthed Linkin Park, Hoobastank and Incubus, Alyson (“Aly”) and Amanda Joy (“AJ”) Michalka compose and perform energetic pop songs with just a hint of sneering attitude. In a span of just two years, the duo has released three well-received albums, while their songs and performances have appeared in Disney films like Ice Princess and Herbie: Fully Loaded.

Though Aly & AJ’s 2006 debut album, Into The Rush, sold over a million copies with little support from radio, it remained to be seen if the duo could extend their hitmaking momentum into 2007. All doubts were dispelled when their sophomore album, Imsomniatic, debuted at #15 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. The first release from the album, “Potential Break Up Song,” is Aly & AJ’s highest charting single, reaching #23 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and winning gold certification from the RIAA.

BMI’s songwriters dominated the country category with Tim McGraw picking up the Favorite Male Artist award and Rascal Flatts winning the Favorite Band, Duo or Group award.

Additional BMI AMA winners include Rihanna (Favorite Female Artist, Soul/Rhythm & Blues), Linkin Park (Favorite Artist, Alternative Rock), Nickelback (Favorite Band, Duo or Group, Pop or Rock), Jennifer Lopez (Favorite Latin Music Artist) and Casting Crowns (Favorite Artist, Contemporary Inspirational).

Indeed, there is a marked decrease in Shinoda’s signature rhymes; “Hands Held High” and the intense “Bleed It Out” are the only tunes on which he raps. Even so, eager fans grabbed 623,000 copies of the highly anticipated release on May 15, placing Minutes at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and making it the highest selling album of 2007 in its debut week.

After more than a decade together, the high school pals — rounded out by lead singer Chester Bennington, guitarist Brad Delson, drummer Rob Bourdon, bassist Dave “Phoenix” Farrell and DJ Joe Hahn — have reinvented themselves, thanks in part to Rubin’s magical touch.

Chicago's Assassins wrap up BMI's Lollapalooza day stage from 4:15 to 4:45 p.m. The group's unique approach to composition and songwriting itself results in experimental layers of electro-rock bearing the distinct thumbprint of each one of the six members.

"I am particularly pleased that our tradition of technology leadership and consistent attention to cost control have permitted us to deliver an ever-larger proportion of our licensing income to the songwriters, composers and copyright owners we represent," Bryant said in making the announcement. Operational expenses as a percentage of revenues decreased from 14.2 percent to 13.2 percent, the lowest in BMI's history and among the lowest of the world's major copyright organizations.

Although total license fees from traditional analog media continued to increase, revenues from cable, satellite, the Internet and other digital media surged ahead. Cable and satellite revenue grew by $24 million and now represents more than 17 percent of the company's total. New media revenues grew to more than $16 million, an increase of 35 percent over the prior year. International revenues also hit a new high at $204 million, and general licensing income, from tens of thousands of bars and restaurants, retail, and service establishments, increased 12 percent over the prior year to more than $86 million.

BMI's revenues are attributable to the diversity, scope and popularity of the music created by the more than 300,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers that the company represents. These songwriters transcend global boundaries and have broad international appeal, and include such acts as Mariah Carey, the Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Shakira, Toby Keith, R. Kelly, Linkin Park, Juanes, Keith Urban, Gnarls Barkley, Korn, Don Omar and Pink, as well as top urban songwriters/producers including Lil Jon, the Neptunes, Snoop Dogg, Sean Garrett, multi-Grammy Award winner Kanye West, T.I., Jamie Foxx, and newcomers Ne-Yo and Chris Brown.

BMI film and television composers enjoyed impressive success, contributing music to 78 percent of all network primetime television shows and 24 of the 25 top-grossing films released during the fiscal year. Perkins is undoubtedly one of the freshest, most prolific songwriters to hit the U.S. from our North American neighbor. Consistently delighting audiences with her enthusiastic performances, her "take no prisoners" attitude, and her contagious melodic rock, Perkins is set for fame. Her sound, a vigorous hybrid of Linkin Park and Sarah McLachlan, is as dynamic as it is emotive.

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Perkins began her career at a young age, acting in plays such as Annie and Les Miserables, but her destiny was always in music. As soon as she could, the gregarious artist made a move for California, performing at prominent venues like the Roxy, the Troubadour and the Hard Rock Café, giving birth to the infectious six-track EP, Broken Window (2005).
