Two years later, elder brother Carter Stanley died, and surviving brother Ralph asked Sparks to take his place as lead vocalist. In 1969, Sparks formed his own band, the Lonesome Ramblers, and has headlined the bluegrass circuit ever since. Haggard received a Special Citation of Appreciation from BMI in recognition of his 42-year affiliation with the performing rights organization. Among his BMI songwriting honors are two-time <A href="/country/">Country</A> Songwriter of the Year and more than 50 BMI Pop and Country Awards.       <content:encoded><![CDATA[<a href= "http://www.ronniemilsap.com" target= "_blank">Ronnie Milsap</a> celebrated the gold certification of his album <i>40 #1 Hits</i> with a party and performance at BMI Nashville. Producer Scott Hendricks, formerly of Virgin Records [which released the album] presented a gold record plaque to Milsap, who then handed out plaques to others associated with the record, including manager Burt Stein of Gold Mountain Entertainment, booking agent Buddy Lee Attractions, and RCA Label Group's Joe Galante, with whom he began his recording career in 1973. Milsap played a medley for the crowd of friends and colleagues, including "It Was Almost Like A Song," "I Wouldn't Have Missed It For The World," "Pure Love" and "There Ain't No Getting Over Me."       <content:encoded><![CDATA[<P>During a visit to the Nashville office, <A id="f641" class="f641" href="/affiliate/C641">Leigh Reynolds</A> was surprised when BMI's Joyce Rice presented him with a <A href="/awards/millionairs/index.asp">Million-Air</A> certificate for his song "That Ol' Wind." Reynolds co-wrote "That Ol' Wind" with Garth Brooks, who recorded it on his <I>Fresh Horses</I> album.
