Opening in the 7 p.m. slot, Diony, a young romantic Salsa singer/songwriter native of Colombia. He began singing at Festivals in his native Barraquilla at a very early age. By 17 he’d written his first song and, two years later, he relocated to the U.S where he stated working with well-known producer Rene Leyva.

Sano-In will be up next with his unique brand of Latin hip-hop. Born in the Dominican Republic he relocated as a child to Spanish Harlem. He uses his multi-cultural background to deliver the hip-hop message in English, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese with sometimes hilarious results. Sano-In has been working with Wu-Tang Clan producer Choco.

Miah (pronounced mee-ah) will close the show. The three sisters [Meylin, Zulay and Mavis] share Latin Soul, Pop, R&B and Rock sensibilities. They first appeared together in Paul Simon’s Broadway production of Capeman and it was Simon who encouraged them to form the group. They have since collaborated with a number of well-known songwriters.

Circo earned two nods including Best New Artist and Best Rock Album By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for No Todo Lo Que Es Pop Es Bueno. Among those earning one nomination each were Latin divas Shakira and Thalia, as well as Kike Santander for Producer of the Year, Charlie Zaa for Best Traditional Tropical Album and Kinky for Best Rock Album.

The 3rd Annual Latin Grammy Awards will be held on September 18 in Hollywood at Kodak Theatre and be broadcast by the CBS Television Network (9-11 p.m. EDT/PDT), carried on radio via the Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation and Westwood One worldwide, and featured on the Internet on GRAMMY.com and America Online, Inc. (AOL Keyword: Latin GRAMMY). Last year's show, scheduled for September 11, was cancelled.

BMI will present its prestigious Latin Awards to the songwriters and publishers of the 50 most performed Latin songs on U.S. radio and television in the company’s repertoire of approximately 4.5 million compositions. The black-tie ceremony is slated for May 8 at the Diplomat Hotel & Resort in Hollywood, Florida. Highlights of the gala event will include a special Certificate of Achievement presentation to Colombian recording artist Juanes. The BMI-affiliated songwriter was nominated for seven Latin Grammy Awards last year and won three, bringing new attention to the Rock en Espa�ol genre.

In addition to Juanes, others expected to attend include Estefano, Pete Astudillo, Jellybean Benitez, Sergio Blass, James De Barba, Odalys Garcia, Rogelio Martinez, Fernando Osorio, El Poder del Norte, Tito Puente Jr., Omar & Adolfo Valenzuela (The Twiins) and many more songwriters, artists and producers.

The BMI Latin Awards, including those for Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Publisher of the Year, will be presented by BMI President & CEO Frances W. Preston and BMI Assistant Vice President of Latin Music Diane J. Almodovar. The dinner is by invitation only and is being held during the Billboard Latin Music Conference & Awards 2002 taking place at the nearby Eden Roc Resort.

This is the fourth time the awards have been held in the Miami area. They have also been staged in Los Angeles and San Antonio.

BMI has represented Latin composers, publishers and compositions since its earliest days, including such classic songs as “Besame Mucho” and “Guantanamera,” each with more than 2 million performances. The company currently represents such contemporary Latin songwriters as Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Luis Miguel, Thalia, Charlie Zaa, Robi “Draco” Rosa, Elvis Crespo, Gloria Estefan, Cristian Castro, Juan Luis Guerra and Lupillo Rivera, to name just a few. Carlos Santana and Richie Valens, the only Latin members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, are represented by BMI.

BMI presented its 8th Annual Latin Awards on Friday, April 20 with top honors going to “Morir De Amor,” songwriters Robert Dee Blades, Jos� de Jes�s Navarro and Kike Santander, and publisher Foreign Imported Productions and Publishing, Inc. The black-tie ceremony, hosted by BMI President and CEO Frances W. Preston and Assistant Vice President of Latin Music Diane J. Almodovar, honored top writers and publishers of the most performed Latin songs on US radio and television at a 400-person gala dinner at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles.

“Morir De Amor,” written by Ram�n Gonz�lez Mora and published by Seg-Son Music, Inc., earned Song of the Year accolades as the most performed song in the BMI Latin catalog. The Latin Grammy-nominated song was a hit for Norte�o band Conjunto Primavera. Mora also received his second BMI Latin Award for another Conjunto Primavera song, “Necesito Decirte.”

Three songwriters tied for the Songwriter of the Year award with the distinct achievement of each having four songs on the most-performed list. WARNER MUSIC PUBLISHING EARNS SECOND PUBLISHER OF THE YEAR AWARD

AWARDS PRESENTED IN 2000 TO THE MOST PERFORMED LATIN SONGS OF 1999

LOS ANGELES, May 1, 2000 - Performing rights organization BMI presented its 7th Annual Latin Awards tonight with top honors going to "Livin' La Vida Loca," songwriters Estefano, Marco Antonio Pérez, Mario Quintero, Kike Santander and Shakira, and Warner Music Publishing. The black-tie ceremony, hosted by BMI President/CEO Frances W. Preston and Assistant Vice President of Latin Music Diane Almodovar, honored top writers and publishers of the most performed Latin songs on American radio and television at a 300-person gala dinner at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles.

"Livin' La Vida Loca," the Ricky Martin smash co-written by Robi "Draco" Rosa and published by A Phantom Vox Corp. and Warner-Tamerlane Publishing Corp., earned Song of the Year accolades as the most performed song in the BMI Latin catalogue. The catchy dance hit spent an amazing 26 weeks on Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks chart and 20 weeks on the Hot 100 Singles chart, and helped ignite the Latin music explosion that continues to take the pop world by storm.

An unprecedented five songwriters tied for the Songwriter of the Year crown with three songs each on the most performed list.
