BMI, in conjunction with the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), is proud to present on December 4, 2003, a first of its kind panel and showcase for Atlanta, "Women in Music." This event recognizes, celebrates and supports the contribution of women to the modern genres of music, including Rock, Pop and Urban. The panel portion of the event will be moderated by Jan Smith, vocal producer and National Trustee for NARAS, and will be comprised of nationally-recognized panelists whom will delve into the issues pertaining to women in the music business and moderated. Confirmed panelists include: Mimi Vasquez, Senior Editor of Vibe Magazine; Susan Silver, artist manager whose client roster includes Audio Slave and Alice in Chains; and Carla de Santis, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of ROCKRGRL Magazine; Catherine Brewton, VP of Writer-Publisher Relations at BMI Atlanta; and Stephony Smith, award-winning country BMI songwriter. Following the panel will be two to three song performances by up-and-coming regional and national female talent, including: Algebra, Allastor, Aslyn (Capitol Records) and Deen Rene.
