Grown Men Don’t Cry

Friends and fans gathered at BMI Nashville (9/5) to honor the BMI-affiliated talents behind the #1 success of "Grown Men Don't Cry": songwriter Tom Douglas (who co-wrote with Steve Seskin), artist Tim McGraw, publisher Sony/ATV Tree and producers Byron Gallimore and James Stroud. Among the sackfuls of loot handed out at the #1 celebration, including BMI cups and Sony plaques, were extra-special commemorative plates painted by the Douglas children -- Katherine, Claire and Tommy -- as thank-yous to McGraw, the producers and Curb Records's Michelle Metzger.

The debut single from Tim McGraw's Set This Circus Down, "Grown Men Don't Cry" is the second #1 hit for Douglas; his first chart-topper came via Collin Raye's recording of "Little Rock," which also earned a BMI Country Award and Million-Air certification. Among Douglas's other songs are two singles by Martina McBride: "Love's The Only House" and "The Gift" (BMI Pop Award).

Reigning CMA Male Vocalist of the Year Tim McGraw is nominated in three categories for 2001 CMA awards: Entertainer, Male Vocalist and Album of the Year. His last two album projects, Everywhere and A Place In The Sun, won Album of The Year honors in 1998 and 1999, respectively. He just completed the critically-hailed 43-city "Tim McGraw On Tour," tallied as the highest grossing country tour of 2001.
