Hi Legends Honored at Premier Players Fete
The Memphis Chapter of the Recording Academy honored some of city's finest musicians at the Premier Player Awards in April. The event paid special tribute to producer Willie Mitchell and legendary label Hi Records, known for instrumental and soul hits that spanned over two decades beginning in the 1950's. Its roster includes Al Green, Ann Peebles, Syl Johnson, Donald Bryant, Ace Cannon and the Hi Rhythm Section. Keyboardist/producer Marvell Thomas was also inducted to the Premier Player Awards Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed to musicians who win five or more awards in a particular category.![]() Al Green | ![]() Ann Peebles | ![]() Donald Bryant |
