January Line-Up Announced for BMI Rockwood ‘Songwriter in Residence’ Series

BMI New York has announced the line-up for its January "Songwriter in Residence" series at Rockwood Music Hall (196 Allen Street between E. Houston and Stanton). All shows start at 9pm and admission is free and open to the public.

This new program features a performance by an emerging BMI singer/songwriter every Monday at the Rockwood. January's line-up includes Mark Aaron James (1/9), Joseph King (1/16), Michael Weston King (1/23) and Matthew Brookshire (1/30).

Mark Aaron James, named "Best Unsigned Singer/Songwriter" and "Best Unsigned Band" in Nashville by MusicRow magazine, has also been hailed for "matching his inventive melodies with catchy, clever word-play that won't insult your intelligence" by The Performing Songwriter.

Singer/songwriter Joseph King merges the unlikely genres of rock, electronica and reggae. He recently moved to New York City from Austin, Texas, where he was a member of the band Canvas.

UK-based artist Michael Weston King, a principal member of the now defunct alt-country band Good Sons, is currently concentrating on his solo career, pursuing the more singer/songwriter elements of his style. The highly acclaimed artist has been likened to Townes Van Zandt, John Prine and Gram Parsons with the kick of Rodney Crowell.

Matthew Brookshire, a songwriter and performer living in New York City, co-wrote four songs for the recent Todd Solondz film, Palindromes, starring Ellen Barkin and Jennifer Jason Leigh. He has performed at Crash Mansion, The Bitter End (NY Songwriter's Circle), Pete's Candy Store and Moe's. His debut EP entitled 8 Songs is currently available at CDBaby.
