A&R Panel Packs the House

BMI, Gibson Guitar and Billboard presented the first "Industry Insider" panel on February 15 at the Gibson showroom in Beverly Hills. A new bi-monthly music industry workshop and panel series for 2006, the inaugural panel focused on the A&R process and featured moderator Melinda Newman, West Coast Bureau Chief and Music Editor for Billboard; Brian Postel, VP, A&R, Virgin Records; Tobin Watkinson, GM, New Armada/Warner Bros. Records; Ken Blaustein, Director, A&R, Virgin Records; and Scott Austin, A&R, Maverick Records.

Shown after the inaugural "Industry Insider" panel are Maverick Records' Scott Austin, Gibson's Jennifer Smith, Virgin's Brian Postel, BMI's Myles Lewis, Barbara Cane, Tracie Verlinde and Joe Maggini, New Armada/Warner Bros' Tobin Watkinson, Virgin's Ken Blaustein, Billboard's Melinda Newman, and BMI's Malik Levy.

Created together with Gibson Guitar by BMI's LA Writer/Publisher Relations staff, this program provides BMI affiliates in the Los Angeles community with "industry insider" resources essential for success. The series, which will be moderated by a rotating group of professionals from BMI, Gibson and Billboard, will take an in-depth look at several core areas that are integral to career growth. The panels and workshops will provide a formative knowledge base and networking platform to all BMI affiliates in the Los Angeles area.
