Snow Patrol Receives BMI Awards
Moments before stepping onstage at their “Little Noise Sessions” acoustic gig at the Union Chapel in north London, Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody and Nathan Connolly were presented with BMI Awards for more than a million combined U.S. performances of their hits “Chasing Cars” and “Hands Open.” The performance was held to benefit Mencap, the United Kingdom’s leading learning disability charity.
Hailing from Ireland, Snow Patrol released their debut album, Songs for Polar Bears, in 1998 on U.K.-based label Jeepster. Their follow-up release, Final Straw, produced by Chris Lord-Alge, was released through Polydor and became the 26th most popular British album of that year. Snow Patrol also became the first U.K. rock act in 13 years to break the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart.
