Alan Menken Leads Oscar Song Nominees

Composer Alan Menken leads the list of BMI Oscar nominees, which includes Glen Hansard (IMRO) and Marketa Irglova (IMRO), as announced January 22 in Los Angeles.

Menken, an eight-time Academy Award winner, received three nominations in the Original Song category for his opuses in the Disney film, Enchanted. A previous Oscar winner for creating the music for such hits as “Beauty and the Beast” and “A Whole New World,” Menken’s “Happy Working Song,” “So Close” and “That’s How You Know” are all vying for Oscar recognition this year.

Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova received an Original Song nomination for “Falling Slowly,” a song from the motion picture Once.

The 80th Annual Academy Awards will be presented on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at the Kodak Theatre and televised live on ABC.
