BMI Songwriters Top BET Awards

R&B and hip-hop royalty convened for a night of celebration at the BET Awards, held June 24 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. BMI songwriters walked away with seven awards in top categories, as Kanye West earned two awards, including Best Male Hip-Hop Artist and Best Collaboration, an honor he shared with fellow BMI songwriter, T-Pain.

A previous BET Award winner, 19-year old Chris Brown took home the Best Male R&B Artist honors, gospel juggernaut Marvin Sapp won the award for Best Gospel Artist, and Lil’ Wayne won the coveted Viewers’ Choice Award for his song “Lollipop.” R&B legend Al Green received the Lifetime Achievement award.
