John Coletta is the Senior Vice President & Managing Director, International at Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) based in the performing rights organization’s New York office.
Coletta leads the Company’s efforts to maximize the collection of global royalties on behalf of its songwriters, composers and publishers and works closely with foreign performing rights societies to improve business practices and identify growth opportunities. He also spearheads the effort to modernize BMI’s reciprocal agreements and oversees global copyright initiatives.
Prior to his current role, Coletta served as BMI’s Vice President of International Legal & Business Affairs, where he provided legal and strategic advice on a wide range of Company initiatives with a focus on the rapidly evolving legal and regulatory landscape outside of the United States and worked closely with BMI’s International Department to maintain relationships with collective rights management organizations around the world.
Throughout his tenor at BMI, Coletta held a number of roles of increasing responsibility in both the Licensing and Legal departments, including Director of Operations & Business Affairs, Senior Director of Business Affairs for Digital Licensing, Assistant Vice President of Legal and Assistant Vice President of International Legal & Business Affairs. He joined BMI in 1992 as an intern in the Media Relations department and later became BMI’s first Director of Online Communications.
Coletta is admitted in New York and New Jersey, as well as the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music from New York University’s Music and Business Technology program and earned his JD from Fordham Law School.
Coletta currently serves as the Chairman of the FastTrack Legal Committee and previously participated on CISAC’s Legal Committee and chaired its Legal Expert Group.
