As news reports have shown, there has been a continued rise in email scams and email phishing attempts. We’d like to take this moment to reiterate that the safety of your personal information and your BMI account is of the utmost importance to us.
Please note that BMI will never send you an unsolicited email requesting sensitive data, such as account passwords or account IDs, or asking you to click any links to provide personal information. If you ever receive a suspicious email that you were not anticipating, please do not click any links or respond with your personal information.
Below are some helpful tips for you to keep in mind to protect yourself from phishing attempts.
If you receive an email from someone you believe you know, but may not be expecting, look closely at the details of the message and ask yourself:
- Does this person normally email me?
- Did this truly come from the sender’s email address?
- Why would this person be asking for my personal information?
- Why does this person need me to click a link?
Clues that an email is not legitimate:
- The sender’s name is someone you know, but the email address is not correct. Always verify the sender address.
- Would you normally receive this type of request from this person? Would you expect mail from the sender? If you’re not sure, call them to ask if they really sent you the email.
- If a website address is included in the email, carefully hover over it to see whether it reflects a different website. If it does, don’t click on it.
- Poorly constructed email, improper capitalization, spelling and grammar errors.
We hope these tips help you stay vigilant. Again, rest assured that BMI is committed to keeping your personal information protected and secure.
