NSAI Songwriters Honor Their Own

BMI songwriters Vince Gill, Steven Curtis Chapman, Tom Shapiro and the songwriting team of Marv Green, Chris Lindsey and Aimee Mayo were among the top winners at the Nashville Songwriters Association International's (NSAI) 33rd Annual Songwriter Achievement Awards (6/27), held at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens in Nashville.

Gill (a two-time BMI Country Songwriter of the Year) became the first recipient of NSAI�s Songwriter/Artist of the Decade award, Chapman was named NSAI�s Songwriter/Artist of the Year for 1999, and award-winning writer/producer Shapiro (a three-time BMI Country Songwriter of the Year) became the first recipient of NSAI�s Songwriter of the Decade. The team of Green/Lindsey/Mayo laid claim to Song of the Year honors for the multi-format smash �Amazed,� recorded by Lonestar.

In all, 33 different songs and their accompanying 60 writers were presented with achievement awards, which were voted by NSAI�s membership as their favorite songs of 1999.
