Posted in News on July 24, 2000
BMI writer Red Steagall was named Entertainer of the Year at the fifth annual Will Rogers Cowboy Masters Awards (7/11) at Fort Worths Scott Theater. The awards, presented by the Academy of Western Artists, recognize musical artists who perform in the western music and western swing genres, as well as other artisans whose work is part of western culture. This was the second time Steagall has claimed the AWAs top performing honor; the Poet Laureate of Texas also hosts the syndicated Cowboy Corner western radio show and the Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering, an arts, music and cowboy poetry festival which will mark its 10th anniversary this October in Fort Worth.
