BMI LA Announces ‘Songwriters Club’

Posted in News on January 4, 2001

BMI LA will be kicking off a new acoustic singer/songwriter showcase series called the "BMI Songwriters Club," it was announced today. The Songwriters Club will be held the third Tuesday of every month starting January 16, 2001 at Highland Grounds from 8 to 10 p.m. There will be an open mic from 8 to 9 pm, with sign-ups beginning at 7:30, and a special acoustic performance from 9 to 10 p.m. Highland Grounds is located at 742 North Highland Avenue in Los Angeles.

“We’re very excited to announce the start of this new acoustic showcase series,” said Myles Lewis, Associate Director, Writer/Publisher Relations, BMI. “It’s the perfect complement to our Circle of Songs showcase. The open mic is open to anyone - all genres are welcome - and sign-up's will be done on a first-come, first-serve basis. The acoustic performance which follows will feature two up-and-coming BMI affiliates each month. It’s going to be a great opportunity for all artists to play out and hear others play, as well as network with songwriters, producers, industry professionals, and of course the local BMI representatives.”

The BMI Songwriters Club is one of the many showcase programs offered by the BMI Los Angeles office. It also hosts a monthly Circle of Songs showcase the last Wednesday of every month at The Gig in West Los Angeles, as well as quarterly New Music Nights showcases all over the West Coast featuring rock, alternative, pop and r&b artists.
