Midemnet Awards Reveal BMI's Site Remains Industry Leader
BMI.com was named the winner in the "Best Organisation" category of the prestigious Second Annual MidemNet Awards, the international competition for the best music web sites of the year. The seven award winners were announced Sunday, January 21 during the Midem conference in Cannes, France.
"This honor is an acknowledgement of the pioneering work we have been doing for the past six and a half years," said Robbin Ahrold, BMI's Vice President of Corporate Relations, who oversees the site.
BMI.com was noted by the judges of the MidemNet Awards to be "one of the most lively music-related web sites" adding "panache to what could have become a mundane online information forum" yet, the site doesn't lose sight of its core objective as demonstrated in sections on news, licensing for digital media, copyright legislative issues, international developments"
Launched in September 1994 and believed to be the first music industry website, BMI.com now serves well over one million page views monthly to a professional music industry user group. Groundbreaking interactive tools such as Online Song Registration and the Digital Licensing Center (DLC) have won wide acclaim both at home and abroad for the site.
The web site was also the first in the music industry to list a company's entire repertoire in a searchable database; listing songwriters, composers, music publishers and artists associated with the more than 4.5 million musical works in BMI's repertoire. Other innovative functions include the ability for BMI affiliated songwriters to perform in-depth reviews of their catalogs and royalty information online from their home PCs.
