Congressman Conyers Honored at BMI Luncheon

BMI President and CEO Frances W. Preston and Government Relations Vice President Fred Cannon welcomed Congressman John Conyers Jr., (D-MI) the Ranking Minority Member of the House Judiciary Committee, to the BMI New York Office on Tuesday, January 15. He and two members of the Judiciary Committee Staff, Perry Apelbaum, Chief Minority Counsel, and Scott Deutchman, Deputy Minority Counsel, met over lunch with several BMI executives to talk about copyright and issues affecting the public performance right.

Congressman Conyers was presented with a BMI "Gold Record" with the inscription "BMI & Congressman Conyers, Making Legends Together" to commemorate his efforts in protecting the rights of songwriters, composers and publishers.

Conyers, a jazz music fan and author of the Jazz Preservation Act, also met with members of BMI’s Jazz Composers Workshop, which was in session during his visit.
