BMI Salutes Gospel ‘Trailblazers’
BMI honored the best in gospel music at its third annual "Trailblazers of Gospel Music" luncheon on Friday, January 11 at 103 West in Atlanta. The invitation-only special event, hosted by BMI's Catherine Brewton, was held in conjunction with the 17th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards, which took place the next day at the Atlanta Civic Center.

This year’s honorees included BMI songwriter/artists Kurt Carr, who received five Stellar Awards out of his nine nominations; Take 6; Doug and Melvin Williams, who were nominated for two Stellar Awards; Tramaine Hawkins; and James Cleveland, who was honored posthumously. Also recognized as a "Trailblazer" was Teresa Hairston, Founder & CEO of Horizon Concepts, which publishes Gospel Today and Gospel Industry Today magazines. Each honoree received a Trailblazer Award plaque in recognition of their outstanding achievements in gospel music. Performers included Fred Hammond, Men of Standard, LaShun Pace, Darwin Hobbs, Richard Smallwood and Doc McKenzie.
