Posted in News on August 12, 2002

18 year old pianist John Austria (center) recently received the Milton Adolphus Award, given annually by the BMI Foundation to a student at LaGuardia High School who has demonstrated excellence in jazz performance. The award is made possible by donations in memory of the late classical composer, Milton Adolphus. Austria will attend Manhattan School of Music in the fall, majoring in Jazz Performance. In addition, he was chosen to perform with the 2001 Monterey Jazz Festival High School All Star Big Band and won 2nd place in the Monterey Jazz Festival High School Combo Division. The BMI Foundation, Inc. was founded in 1985 as a non-profit corporation dedicated to encouraging the creation, performance and study of music through awards, scholarships, commissions and grants. Seen here congratulating Austria are BMI's Ralph Jackson and Jean Banks.
