BMI's Musical Theatre department recently toasted composer Susan DiLallo, the winner of the 2003 Kleban Award, at a reception in New York. DiLallo, a lyricist, won the prestigious award for her work on Once Upon a Time in New Jersey, a musical comedy set in 1956 Hoboken, NJ. Once Upon a Time in New Jersey tells the story of a deli worker who switches places with a local womanizer to woo the woman he loves.

In addition, DiLallo's work will also receive a Development Award for a staged reading on behalf of the Richard Rodgers Competition for Musical Theater in conjunction with the American Academy of Arts and Letters. The Kleban Award for Musical Theatre is given annually by the Kleban Foundation, established in 1988 under the will of BMI composer Edward L. Kleban, best known for the musical A Chorus Line.
