Urban Conference Offers Discount to BMI Writers

Posted in News on June 17, 2004
Billboard magazine is now offering a discounted registration fee of $399 to BMI songwriters for its 5th annual R&B/Hip-Hop Conference and Awards, a savings of $250 off the full price registration. The conference will be held August 4-6 at the Eden Roc Resort in Miami Beach, Fla.

Now in its fifth year, this three-day conference is the premiere R&B/Hip-Hop gathering in the industry, featuring informative panels, skills-sharpening workshops, artist showcases and other events, capped off by the 2004 Billboard-AURN R&B/Hip-Hop Awards on August 6 at 1501 Barton G (formerly BillboardLive). This year, Billboard has teamed up with American Urban Radio Networks (AURN) to provide national coverage of the conference and awards to more than 475 radio stations.

BMI icon Isaac Hayes will be honored at the awards show with the third annual Founder's Award, which recognizes artists for their achievements and influence on others in the R&B and Hip-Hop genres, as chosen by the editors of Billboard.

The Billboard-AURN R&B/Hip-Hop Awards honor the most popular albums, songs, artists and contributors in the R&B and Hip-Hop genres, as determined by the actual sales data from Nielsen SoundScan and radio airplay information from Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems that informs Billboard's weekly charts. Finalists, and the eventual winners, reflect performance of recordings on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop and Rap charts from May 31, 2003 through May 22, 2004.
