Now in its third year, the Kauai Music Festival provides a unique opportunity for aspiring songwriters to learn and improve their craft under the tutelage of some of the best songwriters in the world. This multi-faceted event featured seminar-style instruction for small groups in a variety of settings to promote the creative spirit, as well as lectures and panel discussions by music publishers, music attorneys, producers, and other industry professionals, including Grammy Award-winning producer Russ Titelman, Warner/Chappell Senior VP John Titta, music attorney Bill Meyer and Performing Songwriter Magazine Editor/Publisher Lydia Hutchinson.
This year, BMI also teamed up with Performing Songwriter and Songwriter101.com to present the "Be Heard" Scholarships to the festival. Each scholarship was valued at over $2,000 and covered airfare, hotel costs, a per diem and registration fees. The winners were Clayton Colwell from Lenox, MA ("Tongue Tied"), Devon Copley from Brooklyn, NY ("Late Night Show" co-written by Alex of the Animators) and Steve Boynton from Steamboat Springs, CO ("The Photograph").
