BMI songwriters and artists led the list of winners at the Brit Awards, the UK's most prestigious music awards show, held at London's Earls Court Arena on February 15.

James Blunt KT Tunstall

Newcomer James Blunt, who performed his million-selling ballad "You're Beautiful" during the ceremony, picked up two Brits for British Male Solo Artist and Pop Act. Scottish singer/songwriter KT Tunstall won the award in the other solo category for Best British Female Artist.

Arctic Monkeys Lemar

Indie rockers Arctic Monkeys were named British Breakthrough Act, voted for by Radio 1 listeners, while r&b crooner Lemar picked up the award for British Urban Act. A special award for Outstanding Contribution to Music was given to former Jam frontman Paul Weller.

Paul Weller Kanye West

Still riding high from his triple win at the recent Grammy Awards, rapper Kanye West was named International Male Solo Artist.

Established in 1977, the Brit Awards is a charity event that donates all proceeds to the British Record Industry Trust, better known as the Brit Trust, an organization that encourages the exploration and pursuit of the educational, cultural and therapeutic benefits of music. The Brit Awards is one of the UK's most exciting, most talked about and most successful music events and is considered the equivalent of the Grammys. The ceremony is televised the next day on UK's ITV1.
