‘Industry Insider’ Panel Tackles Music Publishing

Posted in News on March 28, 2006
BMI, along with Gibson Guitar and Billboard, today announced that Music Publishing will be the topic of the April edition of BMI's "Industry Insider" series. The panel will be held on Wednesday, April 19 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at the Gibson Guitar Entertainment Relations Showroom in Beverly Hills (9350 Civic Center Drive). The event is free and open to BMI-affiliated writers and their guests. Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis; early arrival is strongly suggested.

The panel will feature four key music publishing executives from independent and major label publishing entities. Confirmed panelists include Monti Olson, Vice President, BMG Music Publishing and Dan Coleman, Head, A Side Music Publishing, who will be led by moderator Melinda Newman, Billboard's West Coast Bureau Chief & Deputy Editor. More panelists will be announced at a later date. Among the topics: the pros and cons of a publishing deal, what publishers are looking for when signing new writers and artists, and what their role is in working with and breaking new talent. There will also be a Q&A from the audience.

The second in a six-seminar series, the BMI "Industry Insider" series was created along with Gibson Guitar to provide BMI songwriters with an educational forum to assist them with their career development. Moderated by a rotating group of professionals from BMI, Gibson and Billboard, the series will take an in-depth look at several core areas of the music business that are integral to career growth and success. Scheduled topics include management, legal representation and songwriting; the inaugural panel focused on A&R. Offering a direct link to the inner-workings of the music business from the perspective of established music professionals, the program provides songwriters with a wealth of information at no charge.
