BMI Songwriting Workshop Now Accepting Applications

BMI New York is now accepting applications for the 2006 Contemporary Professional Songwriting Workshop. The six-week workshop, which begins June 28, is taught by renowned BMI songwriter Billy Sideman and is designed to help writers hone their skills by focusing on lyric writing, music theory and arranging/production techniques in contemporary songwriting. The class will feature constructive feedback, stimulating assignments and literature developed especially for the BMI Songwriting Workshop.

Billy Sideman’s songwriting career includes staff writing positions at Sony/ATV Tree Publishing in Nashville and Careers/BMG Publishing in New York. He has had recordings by Gold and Platinum artists Irene Cara, Vicki Sue Robinson and Evelyn “Champagne” King. Billy is currently signed to Carlin America Music Publishing.

Starting June 28, the 2006 Contemporary Professional Songwriting Workshop will meet every Wednesday for six consecutive weeks (excluding July 12) from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at BMI’s New York office in the 3rd floor Media Room (320 W. 57th St., btw 8th/9th Aves.). Class size is limited and acceptance into the workshop is at the sole discretion of the instructor and BMI representatives. There is no fee to attend. Participants will be notified by letter or by e-mail of their acceptance into the workshop.
