BMI and RAB Announce Minority Radio Scholarship Selection Committee

BMI and the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) have announced the selection committee for the "RAB/BMI FastStart to Radio Sales Success" Minority Scholarship program. The committee will select 25 minority students to attend the Gary Fries Radio Advertising Bureau Radio Training Academy in Dallas, Texas, or the Academy Off-Campus Extension Program within the next 12 months. The application deadline is June 30, 2006.

The 2006 "FastStart to Radio Sales Success" selection committee includes Van Allen, EVP/CFO, Radio Advertising Bureau; Deborah Beagan, Executive Director, NY Market Radio Association; Hugh Brown, Director Urban Marketing, The Media Audit; Glenn Bryant, SVP Operations, American Urban Radio Networks; Derrick Chatman, New Business Dev Mgr, Cumulus - Albany, GA; Ron DeCastro, VP Sales, Clear Channel - Philadelphia; Muriel Funches, Consultant; Laura Hagan, President, Univision Radio National Sales; Dawn Hill, President, Omega Marketing; April Johnson, General Sales Manager, Clear Channel - Jacksonville; Zemira Jones, VP Operations, Radio One; Sherman Kizart, VP/Director, Urban Radio, Interep; Deon Levingston, VP & General Manager, WBLS & WLIB New York; Chad Lopez, General Sales Manager, WCBS-AM New York; Shawn Marshall, VP Marketing, Radio Advertising Bureau; Jeffrey Myers, Principal, Personal Selling Principles; and Darlene Rosado, Director of Marketing, BMI.

Scholarships are awarded based on various criteria, including ethnicity of applicant, overall need, applicant's enthusiasm toward a career in radio sales, and recommendations from professional associates. Interested students can submit an application and are encouraged to do so as quickly as possible. Application forms and the schedule of classes, dates, and locations can be found at www.RAB.com.

Each scholarship is valued at $1,200. Recipients may choose either a one-week program at RAB's Dallas campus, or a two-and-a-half-day extension program conducted in cities around the U.S. Over 100 BMI-funded scholarships have been awarded since the program's inception five years ago.
