FastStart Radio Scholarship Recipients Announced

Posted in News on August 17, 2006
BMI and the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) have announced the recipients of the 2006 FastStart to Radio Sales Success Minority Scholarship Program. This is the sixth consecutive year that BMI has sponsored the program, which provides minorities with an interest in radio sales full tuition to the Gary Fries RAB Radio Training Academy in Dallas, Texas, or the Academy's Off-Campus Extension Program.

The 25 recipients listed below represent a broad range of group sizes, and come from various markets and regions across the country. Scholarship recipients are chosen by the Selection Committee, which comprises industry professionals with an interest in enhancing the ethnic and cultural diversity of radio. Scholarships are awarded based on various criteria including ethnicity of applicant, overall need, applicant's enthusiasm toward a career in radio sales, and recommendations from professional associates.

"BMI continues to demonstrate its support of the radio industry by investing in these promising, young minority professionals," observed Gary Fries, President and Chief Executive Officer, RAB.

"We are pleased to continue our longstanding support of the radio industry through our partnership with RAB," stated BMI's Mike O'Neill, Senior Vice President of Licensing. "This program provides sales executives with the necessary tools to hone and increase their skills to help them succeed in this business. The training program gives them an important advantage in today's competitive marketplace."

Each scholarship is valued at $1,200. Recipients may choose either a one-week program at RAB's Dallas campus, or a two-and-a-half-day extension program conducted in cities around the U.S. Over 100 BMI-funded scholarships have been awarded since the program's inception five years ago.

The Gary Fries RAB Radio Training Academy in Dallas, Texas, and the Academy Off-Campus Extension Program offer a variety of sales and management courses at beginner and advanced levels. For information on any of the RAB Training Academy programs, call 972-753-6756.

The Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) is the sales and marketing arm of the radio industry with nearly 7,000 members, including almost 6,000 stations in the U.S., and over 1,000 associate members in networks, representative firms, sales and international organizations.
