Composer Alexandre Desplat Scores First Golden Globe
Acclaimed BMI composer Alexandre Desplat (SACEM), the genius behind the music to such films as The Queen, Syriana and Girl With a Pearl Earring, has just added Golden Globe winner to his resume, taking home the trophy for Best Original Score for the music to The Painted Veil. The French-born composer took the stage during the 64th annual awards ceremony held Jan. 15 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
Desplat is a prolific composer who has scored more than 100 films and television shows, both American and French. In addition to a Globe, his Painted Veil score is also a recent recipient of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award, as is his music to The Queen. The Princess Diana story, itself a double Golden Globe winner, also earned Desplat a 2007 BAFTA Award and a 2006 Chicago Film Critics Award.
He has also earned two previous Golden Globe nominations, with Best Original Score nods for Girl With a Pearl Earring (2004) and Syriana (2006).
Other Desplat scores include The Upside of Anger, Casanova and Lies & Alibis. He is currently working on The Golden Compass, starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, and Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, starring Natalie Portman and Dustin Hoffman, both set for release at the end of 2007.
