Eminem, Lady Gaga & Lady Antebellum Lead List of 2011 BMI Grammy Nominees
Eminem, Lady Gaga and Lady Antebellum lead BMI’s triumphant surge in the 2011 Grammy nominations, announced last night in Los Angeles. With 10 nominations, Eminem proves yet again that popularity and critical acclaim are best enjoyed hand in hand. His Recovery will vie for Album of the Year, while “Love the Way You Lie,” recorded and co-written by Eminem and his fellow BMI songwriters Alexander Grant and Skylar Grey and featuring Rihanna, was nominated for both Record and Song of the Year. Lady Gaga and Lady Antebellum follow closely with six nods each: Gaga’s Fame Monster will also compete for Album of the Year, as will Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now, the title track of which is also up for Record and Song of the Year.
Cee Lo Green’s irreverent vintage cool also earned Grammy praise to the tune of four nominations. “F*** You,” which he co-wrote and recorded, was tapped in the all-genre Record and Song of the Year fields. Poignant country chart-topper “The House That Built Me,” co-written by Tom Douglas and recorded by Miranda Lambert, also earned a Song of the Year nomination for its creative team. With five nominations including a Record of the Year nod for his “Nothin’ On You,” B.o.B underscored the potency of his breakout year, as did Drake, whose four nods include the prestigious Best New Artist.
Neo-soulster John Legend earned five nominations, four of which he shares with the Roots for their collaborations, while Alex Da Kid, the Black Keys, Rihanna, and Zac Brown Band each also garnered four nods.
