Broadcast Music Inc.’s Senior Director, Writer Publisher Relations Brandon Haas recently delivered the keynote address at his alma mater, Berklee College of Music, on Thursday, November 13, 2014, for the Music Business/Management majors’ orientation. Invited by two of his previous mentors, Don Gorder, Chair of the Music Business/Management Dept., and John Kellogg, Assistant Chair of the Music Business/Mangement Dept., Haas’ keynote focused on his insights on the music business and advice for those hoping to enter the industry, giving the students a sense of optimism about the career they have chosen. Executives like Haas frequently speak to college students as part of BMI’s outreach to foster the development of songwriters, composers and music professionals.

In addition to the information that Haas provided during his remarks, Berklee Professor Kellogg, author, entertainment lawyer and former vocalist with Cameo, taught more than 25,000 students last year in his free online course, Introduction to the Music Business. The course is offered through the Harvard- and MIT-founded edX, with a new session to begin February 2, 2015. Both the course and his new book, Take Care of Your Music Business 2nd Edition, Taking the Legal and Business Aspects You Need to Know to 3.0, have garnered rave reviews. Check out the book here and the online course here!
