Billboard Honors BMI’s Catherine Brewton and BMI Songwriters at 2022 Women In Music
BMI’s Vice President of Creative, Atlanta, Catherine Brewton, was named one of Billboard’s Women in Music Top Executives in a ceremony on March 2 at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, CA. Brewton was recognized for her work and impact supporting BMI’s affiliates and her many accomplishments during a record-breaking year for the company. She was instrumental in signing and retaining numerous prominent R&B, hip-hop and Gospel songwriters and producers, including names such as Nas, Kanye West, J Cole and many others. She spearheaded a new diversity, equity and inclusion task force at the company, and aided in the search process that led to identifying and hiring BMI’s Chief DEI Officer, Sandye Taylor. Beyond her achievements on behalf of BMI, Brewton is also a founding member of the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame in Atlanta.
Many of BMI’s affiliates were also cited for their incredible contributions. Singer/songwriter Gabby Barrett was honored as this year’s Rising Star, Doja Cat was given the Powerhouse Award, Karol G was the recipient of the Rule Breaker Award, H.E.R. claimed the Impact Award and Saweetie was bestowed the Game Changer Award.
Beyond the honors, the event featured some stirring live performances, including a heartfelt rendition of “El Barco” by Karol G, an intimate reading of “Alone” by Doja Cat, a dazzling version of “Closer” by Saweetie and an unplugged, emotional airing of “I Hope” by Gabby Barrett.
Congratulations to all the honorees!
