Billy Childs Grammy Win Puts Spotlight on ArtistShare

Posted in News on February 23, 2011

When BMI jazz virtuoso Billy Childs earned the Grammy for Best Instrumental Composition during the 2011 ceremony, the music world witnessed a brilliant artist receiving due recognition. Childs’ triumph was also significant because the winning composition, “The Path Among the Trees,” is part of his ArtistShare fan-funded release Autumn-In Moving Pictures. Consequently, ArtistShare is receiving another wave of attention as one of the industry’s most promising new paradigms for creative funding.

Founded in 2003, ArtistShare provides the platform for fans to support their favorite artists by actually funding those artists’ projects. Independent creators are free to create, and fans play a direct, vital role in ensuring key voices are heard.

Childs’ Grammy marks the fifth ArtistShare project to take home Grammy gold since 2005, as well as an ArtistShare participant’s 14th nomination. BMI is a proud supporter of ArtistShare and its commitment to creators, which mirrors BMI’s own dedication to supporting songwriters in every genre and career stage.

“Billy is one of today’s top composers and this award simply confirms that,” says ArtistShare founder Brian Camelio. “I am so proud to be even a small part of the incredible work these artist are doing and even more excited to allow the fans to make this all happen.”
