Blog: Doreen Ringer Ross Intro
The Sundance Film Festival theme this year is all about rebellion. Makes me think of Marlon Brando in the 1953 film The Wild One…
“What are you rebelling against Johnny?” “Waddaya got?”
Rebellion is not exactly a new idea…but I must say I think the Sundance copy is pretty brilliant: “Rebel. This is the renewed rebellion. This is the recharged fight against the establishment of the expected. This is the rebirth of the battle for brave new ideas. This is Sundance.”
Yay. Let’s hear it for words starting with RE. The thing is, Sundance has always been about this…but I guess it’s like renewing one’s wedding vows. They are recommitting to their mission statement. This year is really back to basics, but also a bit different. New director of the festival, John Cooper; new film category, “Next”; and way less excess and glitz.
Linda Livingston and I arrived in Park City late on opening night. Our flight was delayed for hours due to an amazing amount of rain in LA. We got here eventually, safe and sound—but we missed all of the events that night.
