BMI and ASCAP held a music licensing session at the Tavern League of Wisconsin’s (TLW) 84th spring conference on April 2, in Appleton, WI. The presentation included an overview of the music licensing process, the service that BMI and ASCAP provide to TLW members, and the importance of songwriters getting paid when their music is publicly performed. Joining the session was ASCAP hit-songwriter and Wisconsin resident, Tony Battaglia, who shared his personal story of the challenges songwriters face and how he relies on the licensing fees that the performing rights organizations collect in order to make a living. Tony closed out the meeting performing a few songs from his extensive catalog, including songs he co-wrote with BMI affiliate and Shinedown front man, Brent Smith.

The Tavern League of Wisconsin (TLW) is a non-profit trade association dedicated to serving the needs of the retail beverage alcohol segment of the hospitality industry in the State of Wisconsin.
