BMI Brings Sci-Fi and Superhero Composers to Comic-Con 2023
BMI was excited to participate in Comic-Con, last week, in San Diego, CA, sponsoring two informative panels this year, The Star Wars Musical Universe With Lucasfilm and EA Games and Musical Anatomy of a Superhero.
Now in its 9th edition, this year’s panel for Musical Anatomy of Superhero, held on Thursday, July 20, featured composers Christopher Lennertz (BMI), David Russo (BMI), Laura Karpman (SESAC), Christopher Beck (BMI) and The Haxan Cloak (BMI), guest moderated by composer Michael Giacchino (ASCAP), all discussing the role of a film composer in a genre where music is absolutely crucial in defining characters.
The Star Wars Musical Universe panel, presented by EA Games and White Bear PR with support from BMI and ASCAP, took place on Friday, July 21, and featured teams responsible for the score of the video game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, including Gordy Haab (ASCAP), Stephen Barton (BMI) and Nick Laviers (BMI), and moderated by White Bear Publicity VP and BMI affiliate Chandler Poling. The insightful panel discussed the challenges of creating original music for the highly successful game that supports the incredibly rich musical lineage of the widely beloved Star Wars universe.
Additionally, BMI composers Chris Bacon, Sherri Chung, and Kurt Farquhar all participated in Rhapsody PR’s 15th annual Behind-The-Music: Supersonic panel on Thursday, July 20. This lively discussion delved into what goes into creating the scores and sounds of some of today’s most popular TV series and movies.
