BMI/ Cliff Goldmacher Workshop: Making Your Rough Recordings Anything But “Rough”

Get an insider’s perspective on the process of making rough recording from a 25-year veteran songwriter, producer, musician, engineer and author. In addition to recording, playing on and producing thousands of demos for major and independent publishers, brand new songwriters and GRAMMY winners, Cliff’s songs have been cut by major label artists in genres ranging from country, pop and jazz to classical crossover. His music has also been used on NPR’s This American Life and in national advertising campaigns, while his song, “Till You Come to Me,” went to #1 on the jazz charts.
Topics covered in this workshop will include:
- The value of rough recordings
- Why sound quality matters in your rough recordings
- How to make “polished” rough recordings
BMI 101 Workshop: New York
BMI 101 is a one-hour introductory workshop for writers and publishers, covering the role that BMI plays in the music industry, basics of performing rights, and becoming a BMI affiliate.

BMI 101 Workshop: Los Angeles
BMI 101 is a one-hour introductory workshop for writers and publishers, covering the history of performing rights, the origins of BMI, and the current role that BMI plays in the music business.

American Songwriter Lyric Contest
The American Songwriter Amateur Lyric Contest takes place six (6) times per year in conjunction with each issue of American Songwriter published.
Fee: $15 per lyric
Who: Contest is open to entrants in all countries.
Prize: First place winner receives a first class Gibson Guitar and a Shure SM58 Microphone.

John Lennon Songwriting Contest
The John Lennon Songwriting Contest is an international songwriting contest launched in 1997.
Fee: $30 per song
Who: Contest is open to amateur and professional songwriters in any one of 12 categories.
Prize: Prizes are awarded for different levels of achievement, such as Finalist, Grand Prize, Lennon Award and Song of the Year.
