BMI Congratulates its 2016 American Music Award Winners
BMI writers turned out in force last night at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater to take home an enviable selection of trophies at the 2016 American Music Awards. Rihanna claimed three prestigious AMA’s, collecting Favorite Female Artist – Soul/R&B, Favorite Album Soul/R&B for Anti and Favorite Song – Soul/R&B for “Work.” Carrie Underwood claimed both Favorite Female Artist – Country and Favorite Album – Country for Storyteller. Ohio duo Twenty One Pilots earned Favorite Duo or Group – Pop/Rock and Favorite Artist – Alternative Rock. Other notable accolades included Zayn Malik being named New Artist of the Year, and a special Award of Merit was presented by actor Robert Downey Jr. to recently named BMI Icon, Sting.
During the high-energy evening, Lady Gaga sang a resonant rendition of her latest single “Million Reasons,” John Legend unveiled an affecting performance of “Love Me Now,” Niall Horan (PRS) wowed the crowd with “This Town” and Sting brought the house down with a medley of his timeless hits.
