BMI Congratulates its 2017 Latin GRAMMY Winners
BMI is exceptionally proud of its Latin affiliates whose work shined last night at the 18th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Building on its immense popularity, “Despacito,” Luis Fonsi’s powerhouse single, made the biggest noise of the evening, earning Fonsi awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Urban Performance and Best Short Form Music Video. Beyond that accolade, BMI songwriters across many musical styles assumed the stage to take home Latin GRAMMY gold. Among the evening’s multiple winners, the Dominican Republic’s Vincent Garcia claimed Best New Artist, Best Tropical Song for “Bachata En Kingston,” and Best Singer/Songwriter album for A La Mar. Residente took home both Best Urban Music Album for his eponymous solo debut and Best Urban Song for “Somos Anormales.” Rockers Diamante Electrico won Best Rock Album La Gran Oscilación and Best Rock Song for “Déjala Rodar.”
In addition to the distribution of the awards, last night’s event saw some amazing performances, including Residente’s show-opener “Letra de “Hijos del Cañaveral,” a stirring airing of “Amarrame” by Mon Laferte, a Juanes’ collaboration with Logic and Alessia Cara on “1800,” guest-studded versions of “Si tu Novio te Deja Sola,” “Unforgettable” and “Mi Gente” by J Balvin, a dramatic rendition of “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi with Victor Manuelle, Bomba Estereo and Diplo, and so much more.
Here is the complete list of BMI winners. Congratulations to all!
