BMI Congratulates its 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductees & Award-Winners
BMI is again very proud of its songwriters who were singled out for induction and cited as award-recipients by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in an announcement Sunday night during an airing of ABC’s American Idol.
Among this year’s class of inductees in the Performer Category is legendary R&B, soul and funk band, Kool & The Gang, responsible for such hits as “Ladies’ Night,” “Celebration,” “Cherish,” “Fresh,” “Jungle Boogie” and many more.
The Musical Influence Award is being posthumously given to blues and R&B pioneer Big Mama Thornton, whose songs like “Ball ‘n’ Chain,” “They Call Me Big Mama” and her original rendition of Leiber and Stoller’s “Hound Dog” are considered some of the most profoundly influential recordings of all time.
In the Musical Excellence Award category, the Hall is recognizing R&B, pop and soul singer Dionne Warwick, whose recordings like “That’s What Friends Are For,” “Alfie,” “Walk On By,” and countless others, are considered classics. Beloved American singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett, renowned for perennial favorites like “Margaritaville” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” among many others, is posthumously included in this category as well, as is prolific Motown songwriter/producer Norman Whitfield, whose credits include enduring singles like “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “I Heard it Through the Grapevine,” “Ball of Confusion (That’s What the World is Today),” “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone” and many others, and The MC5, the incendiary Michigan rock band that delivered 1969’s revolutionary rock opus, Kick Out the Jams.
The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will happen live on Saturday, October 19 at the Rocket Mortgage Field House in Cleveland, Ohio.
