BMI Indie Spotlight: Beau
New York City is known as the center point for the merging of culture, fashion, literature, art, and music, and alt-pop duo Beau—singer/songwriters Heather Goldin and Emma Jenney—are the amalgam of all that the city’s artistic community has to offer. From punk rock and folk to modern pop, Beau’s reputation for creating atmospheric and catchy songs is directly influenced by their eclectic upbringing in NYC. Their music embodies the soul of the city’s musical history, and their childhood friendship has created a unique and sister-like bond between the two. By age 13, Goldin and Jenney had started their first band called The Boos, and now they’re already on their third EP as Beau. Titled Life Twice, the project was recorded at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in NYC and features both energetic, upbeat songs (particularly its title track) along with more evocative and soul-stirring moments like “Hardly Breathing.” They have toured the world opening for acts like Miike Snow, Børns, and Edward Sharpe, played SXSW, and performed at runway shows for fashion houses Chloe and Rebecca Minkoff. With more music on the horizon, Beau continues to be inspired by the city they love.
