BMI Indie Spotlight: Hope Tala

Posted in News on March 15, 2023

Hope Tala is a London-based artist, producer, and songwriter who first made waves with her song “Peace Freestyle” in 2016. A self-taught guitarist who also taught herself how to record music on Logic Pro, Tala’s sound can be described as a creative flow featuring R&B, soul, alternative, pop, and even bossa nova inspirations. While completing her university degree, she cultivated a following with her independent EPs Starry Ache (2018), Sensitive Soul (2019), and Girl Eats Sun (2020); not only did the Girl Eats Sun single “All My Girls Like to Fight” soundtrack the opening of HBO Max’s Gossip Girl reboot, but it also landed on Barack Obama’s Favorite Music of 2020 playlist. Tala has received acclaim from outlets like BBC Radio 1, Billboard, Clash, Consequence of Sound, SPIN, and more, and her powerful 2022 single, “Is It Enough,” fearlessly tackled the issue of systemic inequality. She is now signed to Republic Records and is preparing her full-length debut, introduced by the singles “Leave It on the Dancefloor” and “Stayed at the Party.”
