BMI Joins Discussions at the Vancouver Film Festival and WSA Film Music Days
BMI’s Film, TV & Visual Media team was excited to participate in multiple conferences this month to share insights and career experiences with aspiring music professionals. BMI Vice President Tracy McKnight and Executive Director Reema Iqbal traveled to Canada for the Vancouver Film Festival’s Amp Conference, where McKnight took part in a panel called Career Pathways: A Musical Journey. During the discussion, she spoke about her own career path from the field of music supervision to studio executive to PRO executive, how she has been an advocate for emerging music creatives (as a past board member for Women in Film and two years as the Vice President of the Guild of Music Supervisors) and how she has led various DEI initiatives in the music space.
Just this past weekend, meanwhile, McKnight and Iqbal headed to Ghent in Belgium to participate in a panel as part of the World Soundtrack Awards’ Film Music Days, where attendees had the opportunity to learn more about the film music world through panel discussions, interviews, and masterclasses. The panel, titled Music Supervisors: Gatekeepers or Opportunity Makers?, found McKnight alongside respected music supervisors, again sharing her experience and expertise in the field. The next day, McKnight participated in WSA’s professional matchmaking session between composers and film music professionals where local talent got to have one-on-one conversations with international industry professionals visiting the World Soundtrack Awards.
