BMI Joins the American Hotel & Lodging Association Foundation for Inclusive Leadership Workshop
BMI partnered with the American Hotel & Lodging Association Foundation to present a unique songwriter in the round performance at a two-day workshop held in Nashville to kick off the Foundation’s 2nd annual Executive Leadership Academy (ELA), a six-month learning experience for C-suite level hotel executives that focuses on inclusive leadership. In keeping with the theme of DE&I, BMI brought in three country songwriters of color who shared songs from their diverse catalogues while telling the stories about how they were conceived. The performance featured the mother daughter act O.N.E. the Duo that is comprised of BMI songwriters Prana Supreme Diggs and her mother Tekitha Washington, a vocalist with the iconic rap group Wu-Tang Clan. Prana Supreme’s father is Wu-Tang Clan leader RZA. Their soulful country sound showcases their beautiful harmonies and hip-hop influences. Joining them on stage was BMI songwriter Michael Warren, who is starting to make waves in the country genre after having written pop and hip-hop songs for the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Akon. Prior to the performance, BMI Executive Director of Creative, Shannon Sanders was interviewed by AH&LA Foundation President Anna Blue about the state of the music industry in Nashville when it comes to DE&I and whether underrepresented talent is beginning to get more opportunities as society experiences some important cultural shifts.
