BMI Latin Songwriters Dazzle at Fan-Based Premios Juventud 2021
BMI is once again exceptionally proud of its Latin songwriters singled out for their impactful contributions to the world of Latin music, last night, at the fan-based Premios Juventud at the Watsco Center in Miami. The exciting evening of song and celebration, the 2021 edition of this awards show underscored the multiple styles of Latin music, with a theme of “Youth Leading the Change in Culture,” blended with some moving moments and dazzling performances.
Continuing her ascent, BMI singer/songwriter Karol G was the evening’s biggest winner. The Colombian superstar took home six awards, including Artista De La Juventud Femenino, El Traffic Jam, Las Más Pegajosa, La Coreo Más Hot, Social Dance Challenge and El Más Trendy. Tijuana’s Grupo Firme collected four awards, notably Mejor Colaboración Regional Mexicana, Mejor Fusión Regional Mexicana, Grupo o Dúo Favorito Del Año and Álbum Regional Mexicano Del Año. The Mexican duo Los Dos Carnales was also a multiple winner, receiving both La Nueva Generación Regional Mexicano and Mejor Canción Regional Mexicana.
Beyond the accolades, the 2021 Premios Juventud featured unforgettable performances. Some of the evening’s highlights include a rousing performance of “To’a La Noche,” the new song by CNCO, a star-studded Reggaeton tour de force featuring Pitbull, El Alfa IAmChino, Anthony Watts and others, a show-stopping performance by Karol G of “200 Copas,” backed up by a mariachi band, a medley of favorites by Pepe Auilgar, Angela Aguilar and Leonard Aguilar, an appearance by Gloria Trevi sharing her new collaboration with Guaynna, “Nos Volvimos Locos,” a medley by the triumphantly reunited ChinoY Nacho and a stirring tribute to the people of Cuba, featuring special appearances by Camila Cabello, Emilio Estefan, Pitbull, Gente de Zona, Yailenys Perez, Malena Burke, Lena, Joncien and many more.
