La Doña is a San Francisco-born reggaeton singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who began her career at age seven playing trumpet, strings, and percussion in her family’s conjunto. Later, she played in a youth salsa band and a Balkan fusion band before synthesizing her upbringing into original compositions that mix Latin folk traditions (corridos and rumba) with the propulsive sounds of reggaeton, cumbia, and hip-hop. La Doña coined the term “femmeton” to describe her autobiographical songs that explore love, sex, gentrification, and the radical joys of being a queer woman in the Bay Area. She was chosen as one of YouTube’s Foundry Artists, and in 2020, her song “Quién Me La Paga” was named one of New York Times Magazine’s 19 Songs that Matter for Now. Her 2020 album, Algo Nuevo—which was named one of the six best albums of 2020 by the San Francisco Chronicle—features fan favorites like “Dembow Y Sexo,” “Nada Me Pertenece,” and “Le Lo Lai,” and she spent 2021 releasing singles like “Setas y Ceros,” “Mal de Amor,” and “Mi Nuevo Amor.” Her latest release, Penas con Pan, is out now.

La Doña, nacida en San Francisco, es una cantante y compositora de reguetón que toca múltiples instrumentos e inició su carrera a los siete años, cuando tocaba trompeta, cuerdas y percusión en el conjunto de su familia. Luego tocó en un grupo juvenil de salsa y una banda de fusión balcánica antes de sintetizar su formación en composiciones originales que combinan tradiciones folclóricas latinas (corridos y rumba) con el dinámico sonido del reguetón, la cumbia y el hip-hop.
