BMI Mourns the Loss of 5th Ward Weebie

Posted in News on January 10, 2020

BMI was saddened to learn of the death of 5th Ward Weebie, who passed away Thursday at the age of 42. A pivotal pioneer of the bounce music scene in his native New Orleans, Weebie, whose real name was Jerome Cosey, helped put Louisiana on the hip-hop map via singles like “Get Out The Way,” “Let Me Find Out,” “F__K Katrina,” as well as notable collaborations like “Bend it Ova” with Lil Wayne and “Nice for What” with Drake. That last song earned Weebie a BMI award in 2019.

An innovative rapper, actor, tireless advocate of New Orleans culture and longtime BMI affiliate, 5th Ward Weebie will be sorely missed by his friends and fans at BMI.
