BMI Presents ‘Music & Film: The Creative Process’ at 2024 Sundance Film Festival
BMI presented its signature panel “Music & Film: The Creative Process” at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival on Monday, January 22, at The Box in Park City, Utah. The conversation focused on the music in the film Exhibiting Forgiveness, which made its world premiere at the Festival and is in dramatic competition. Panelists included the film’s director Titus Kaphar GRAMMY and Golden Globe award-winning BMI singer/songwriter and actress Andra Day, and BMI composer Jherek Bischoff. The ensemble spoke about their musical vision for Exhibiting Forgiveness, including the power behind a well-crafted score, how original music can shape the narrative and the magic of bringing this film to life through the marriage of sound and visuals. The panel was moderated by BMI’s VP of Creative, Film, TV and Visual Media, Tracy McKnight and wrapped with an audience Q&A.
BMI kicked off Sundance on Saturday, January 20, by hosting a private dinner for composers and leading industry executives at 350 Main Brasserie restaurant in Park City, Utah. In attendance were BMI’s VP of Creative, Film, TV and Visual Media Tracy McKnight and BMI’s VP of Creative Tracie Verlinde, other guests included WME’s Bradley Rainey, Fortress’s Rich Jacobellis, BMI composers The Octopus Project, Nick Chuba and Zach Ryan, Fox’s Danielle Diego, Patrick Houlihan and John Houlihan, Disney’s Tom MacDougall, BMI songwriter Justin Jesso, BMI composer & co-president of the Alliance of Women’s Heather McIntosh, and music supervisor Jabari Ali.
